From real-ale pubs with open fires to Italian coffee on the cobbles, there’s plenty to keep a wizard going. There are lots of other places to eat around town too.
The Royal Oak
A great traditional pub with fantastic real ale and a friendly atmosphere. Secure beer garden with a boules pitch, a fine collection of horse brasses, and a cosy fire in winter.
On Wizarding Day 2026 it opened from 12pm for chocolate frogs, ‘I can’t believe it’s not butterbeer’ and cobs, with snakes in the barn.

A small, friendly take-out coffee shop in the centre of town. Antonio & Sarah serve fresh Italian coffee and sweet and savoury bites, with vegan and dairy- and gluten-free options. Sit inside, or outside on the historic cobblestones.
The Feather Star
Ale house and record shop, now in the main bar of the Red Lion Hotel. Five cask ales, up to 13 craft beers and lagers on the wall of taps, five real ciders, and a little vinyl record store selling used vinyl and new reissues.

The Hope and Anchor
“A good pub with REAL food.” A Grade II listed building in the centre of Wirksworth, with rustic, historic rooms, open fires, honest food, a wide range of drinks and a warm welcome.

Great news, wizards! After the long trip north on the Hogwarts Express, across the cold lake to the castle, and all the way through the Sorting, you’ll be ready for some food.
Website →The Dining Room
A delightful eatery known for tasty, home-cooked food made with fresh, local ingredients, from classic comfort food to more creative dishes.
The Quarryman
Hidden among unassuming shopfronts, this lively Muggle tavern offers a glimpse of non-magical conviviality. Try the ‘ale on tap’, a frothy brew poured from gleaming brass spouts. Glamours advised for more obvious robes.
Vino Felice
A small, cosy bar serving world wines, champagne and spirits, with antipasti platters of cured meats, cheeses and Mediterranean sides. Table service only, as there’s no standing bar. No booking needed.
