Getting to Wirksworth

Travelling to Wirksworth is easy, but parking in the town centre is limited. On Wizarding Day, come by train or bus, or book a park & ride space.

Town-centre parking fills up very quickly. Park & ride spaces are kindly provided by Haarlem Mill, Ravenstor, TDP, Technolog and Willow Direct.

By train

All aboard the Wizarding Express

The heritage Ecclesbourne Valley Railway runs Wizarding Express return journeys between Duffield and Wirksworth on Wizarding Day.

Duffield is on the mainline from Derby, so you can change there for Wirksworth. The fairground and the owls are waiting at Wirksworth Station when you arrive.

Direct and hourly. Fares are £2 each way. Stops at Sheffield Interchange, Arundel Gate, Eyre Street, Heeley and Woodseats.

Driving directions

From Derby

Take the A6 north.
Just before Duffield, take the signposted left turn onto the B5023.
Follow the B5023 all the way to Wirksworth.

From Chesterfield

Leave Chesterfield on the A632 towards Matlock.
In Matlock, cross the bridge and join the A6 southbound towards Cromford.
At Cromford, turn right onto the B5036 and continue over the hill into Wirksworth.

From the M1

Leave the M1 at junction 28 and take the A38 west towards Matlock and Derby.
Leave the A38 at Ripley and take the A610 north towards Ambergate.
At Ambergate, turn north onto the A6 towards Cromford and Matlock.
At Cromford, turn left onto the B5036 and continue over the hill into Wirksworth.
